Pearl powder for injection molding and its precautions for use

Since the physical properties and geometric parameters of pearlescent pigments are quite different from those of ordinary pigments, the following points should be noted during use:

(1) The resin should have a high transparency. Avoid the addition of opaque fillers such as talc.

 (2) In the mixing or processing of pearlescent pigments, efforts should be made not to damage the platelets of the pearlescent powder, such as avoiding the use of high-speed dispersing machines for a long time of mixing during dispersion. The other pigments should be pre-ground to a specified fineness and then mixed with the pearlescent pigment to prevent the pearlescent pigment from being mixed into the sand mill, the ball mill and the roller mill disperser together with other pigments.

(3) When matching colors with other pigments, pigments with good transparency are preferred. If the hiding power of the product is insufficient, a method of using a fine particle size pearlescent pigment of the same color phase may be employed to improve the covering of the product. When it is necessary to add opaque pigments, it should be added in a very small amount, and the amount of pearl powder should be appropriately increased.

(4) Different plastic resins have different properties, so relevant tests are necessary.

(5) Differences in processing methods will also affect the pearlescent effect of the final product.

 (6) The unique hue and pearl and metallic luster of the final pearlescent products are mostly determined by whether the pearlescent products are uniformly dispersed and arranged in parallel. In order to ensure the best dispersion, it is recommended to pre-form the liquid in the system like other pigments, while ensuring the consistency of the hue and avoiding the flying of pearlescent products.
